GDS Associates, Inc. has an exciting and challenging opportunity with advancement and growth potential for a Project Engineer – Energy Efficiency in our Manchester, NH, Northeast regional office. This position is for a motivated candidate with relevant experience and a strong understanding of HVAC engineering principles. You would be joining a growing team of energy engineers that are providing independent consulting on energy efficiency projects in commercial, industrial, and agricultural facilities throughout New England.

  • Conduct industry standard (ASHRAE or equivalent) energy audits in commercial, industrial, and control environment agriculture (CEA) facilities.
  • Perform energy engineering studies including custom HVAC analysis, retro-commissioning, chiller plant optimization, industrial process evaluation and others
  • Conduct on-site inspections to identify and analyze energy conservation measures (ECMs) including field measurements of temperature, air/water flow rates, chilled- and hot-water loads, electrical power and other data logging.
  • Coordinate with trade allies and contractors to develop firm fixed cost estimates and work scopes for identified projects.
  • Present energy efficiency recommendations to end-use customers, clients and other stakeholders.
  • Travel within the New England region to job sites and meetings (10-30%).
The ideal candidate for this position is self-motivated individual with practical real-world experience in the energy efficiency or HVAC design industry. This candidate has some project management experience and will be capable of supporting a wide range of energy engineering related projects. The ideal candidate will have a passion for energy efficiency and a strong desire to grow technically.
Experience and Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience with commercial/industrial HVAC system design, analysis and/or evaluation.
  • Working knowledge of major building systems, design and operation. Experience with industrial process is preferred but not required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills (some statistical analysis experience preferred).
  • Effective oral/written communication skills for working with customers.
  • Collaboration and team-oriented, hands-on field work and client-focused.
  • Ability to work autonomously while maintaining Team relations and connections.
  • Available for moderate domestic travel (10-30%).
